Time Flew By

To day marks the final week of the2015 CSA season at Cedarmore.

Anna writes...Seasons ebb by on wings of time. Autumn gracefully bows out as cold, blustery north winds whistle under the eaves. Cozy, warm winter fires burning keep us toasty warm! Time to bundle up. Ere long spring will softly breeze in.....

This is the last week and final week of the 2015 season. Anna and John have taken great pride in producing and sharing the fruits of their labor with us every week in our boxes. Over all they have good feeling about his season. They did have a few crops fails like carrots, Swiss chard, and sweet potatoes. The weather may have been a big factor in that. There were some crops that did exceptionally well like Chinese cabbage, spicy greens, green beans, potatoes, and radishes.

This week you will find a canned good added to your box free of charge to help fill them up. Enjoy!

There are some hidden surprises under the lettuce.

We thank each of you for being apart of the 2015 CSA . Hopefully you will return next season. And maybe tell a few friends about your experience so they might consider joining also. Sign-up sheets for the 2016 season will be coming out between Christmas and New Years.

Still Seeing Beautiful Boxes

Anna says there is still plenty of lettuce in the greenhouse so we will probably see it in the last box next week. They are looking forward to the snow coming. I asked Anna what she will do after the CSA season comes to an end. She says that will be the time that she has to catch up on her sewing and all the other things she has had to put off.

In The Beginning

Andy and Lizzie have known each other since they were very small. Growing up in an Amish community there are plenty of opportunities to play and work together. They grew up in the same church but went to different schools. Several years ago they moved from Wayne County, OH to right outside Hillsboro, OH and established Cedarmore Farm. The farm got it's name very simply...in Wayne County there were very few cedar or sycamore trees . When Andy and Lizzie got here, they noticed an abundance of cedar and sycamore trees on the land. So they just merged the two names and Cedarmore Farm was born. They have worked very hard in the few years that they have been farming the land. Andy and Lizzie are in the process of building their house and hopefully they will be able to move into the upstairs this spring. We can only see good things in their future farming experiences. And we wish them well.

Not only is Cedarmore growing fruits and vegetables. The Andy's have a growing family. They have four of the most precious children! Anna, who is excited about going to school this fall. Dennis who follows Andy around like his shadow. Moses who is doing well after a little run-in with the pigs. And Lovina who is the youngest at 9 months.

Then there is a new season on the farm. In the winter (Jan 2015), the Andy's packed up and moved to MO leaving the CSA in the most capable hands of John and Anna (Anna is Andy's twin sister) Zook and there 7 children. They changed the name of their farm to Cedarmore Farm so we English wouldn't be too confused. So the work has begun to provide lush healthy vegetables for the CSA season 2015 which begins in May.
